Class K (Class F in Europe) fires involve hot cooking oils and animal fats — the most dangerous fire type in a commercial kitchen. Water is ineffective and can cause a violent oil splash; dry powder smothers but does not cool and leaves heavy residue. A wet chemical extinguisher is the only correct agent for these fires.

This Class K extinguisher discharges a potassium acetate solution that reacts with the burning oil to form a thick, soapy foam crust (saponification) over the oil surface. The foam layer cuts off oxygen, seals the oil from heat, and cools the cooking surface below its ignition temperature, preventing re-ignition even after the extinguisher is removed. The reusable cylinder design keeps operating costs low: only the agent cartridge is replaced after each discharge.
